I've held a pen -- and then a keyboard -- in my hands since age
three, and I have written professionally for newspapers, magazines,
corporations and nonprofits for the past 15 years. Every assignment has
been a great chance to learn something new, whether it's about the benefits
of tax breaks or the effects of tamoxifen.
As a magazine writer on staff at Self, Money, and Red Herring, I wrote extensively
about a wide range of topics including healthcare, personal finance, psychology,
small business management, technology and travel. I still write for many publications,
including AARP: The Magazine, Marketwatch, Entrepreneur, Self, Shape and Smart Money.
I've also been a ghostwriter of two books -- one on female entrepreneurs for McGraw-Hill,
the other on pro-life versus pro-choice controversy for Planned Parenthood.
To get more more Internet experience, I became editor of Quicken.com, a financial web site
used by four million people monthly. To find out what interested readers the most, I tracked
their movements on a daily basis and conducted online focus groups to get their feedback.
Besides assigning and editing articles by financial writers, I wrote regular columns and
newsletters for individual investors and small business owners.
All the knowledge I've gained has led me to regular corporate writing assignments.
Recent clients include Intuit, Cisco Systems, and the University of California. I also
write marketing collateral and business strategies for nonprofit organizations.
To recharge my batteries, I play tennis and the cello, tend a small but colorful garden,
and plan my next exotic vacation overseas (the last trip was diving in Belize, the next will be closer to home by snowshoeing through the Grand Tetons).
